10 Paved Trails in DFW

10 Paved Trails in DFW

By: Haley Cottey

Hiking is amazing for our mental, spiritual and physical health and it is so therapeutic to get on a trail and feel separated from the chaos of the city. We are so fortunate to have many green spaces available to us in DFW but sometimes weather is not always on our side. Rain and floods can damage dirt trails and hiking or biking on the trails while they are muddy can cause even more damage. Most trails in DFW are maintained by volunteers and take more work than most people realize. If flooding is severe enough, trails may be closed for extended periods of time.

Storms can close trails and hiking and biking is not always available in order to protect the trails integrity and honor the hard work from volunteers who maintain the many trails in DFW. However, DFW has many paved trails available to us.

Also, as a mom of young ones, sometimes I want to get outside but a dirt trail is not always feasible. My little ones sometimes just don't feel like hiking with me or can't make it as far as I may want to go OR they can't walk at all yet so I need a trail that is stroller friendly. It is also wonderful that we have outdoor spaces that are also accessible by wheelchair for many who otherwise have difficulty enjoying natural areas otherwise.

Here is a list of 10 paved trails you can enjoy when your favorite dirt trail may not be available. Each trail is linked to the AllTrails profile so you can read more about the trail, length etc. You can also download the free AllTrails app to find trails near you. If you want to make it a fun game with the family and get even more trails, join explorers all over the metroplex and play DFW Paved Trails Bingo
